Partying vs. Pregnancy

Painting a little picture of life as I know it...

I don't really think I was in any way prepared for pregnancy - sometimes I sit back and laugh just about how the times have changed! I wake up with hangovers but never enjoyed the cocktails the night before! In the end, I know it will ALL be so well worth it & I could not be more excited.

And for the record, I haven't yet peed my pants from sneezing, although I heard it happens. MEOW!

Second Trimester here we come!

Best moment this week: finally heading into the 2nd trimester
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? Beer, sushi & COFFEE. Such a bummer that my two favorite drinks are off limits. Guess that leads me to a few McDonalds Cokes every now and then... which is accompanied by a 10 piece chicken nugget meal. Go figure.
Movement: Not yet... Hopefully SOON!
Food cravings: Peaches, Plums... anything fruity or sweet.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Coffee & Red Meat

Looking forward to: Finding out the gender & feeling the baby move!

Nursery Layout & Changing Table Find!

More nursery planning! Brandon & I took the tape measure upstairs and started mapping out where everything will go, so that we could decide what type of furniture we would be looking for in terms of a changing table & dresser.
Based on the layout of the room, we decided to go for a long changing table & then a smaller dresser with some shelves above it. Here is the basic layout of the room & planned placement of all the furniture.

I knew I wanted to repurpose something as a changing table, I wanted something bigger with closed doors and not shelving for baskets.  For only $100, we scored this awesome buffet table on craigslist!! Granted, we did have to drive to the ghetttttto of Atlanta to retrieve it, BUT well worth it. I love how it is big enough for a changing pad plus room for other stuff on top, and there are shelves inside the sliding doors so we have plenty of room for storage. AND I can vacuum under it! :)

The plan is to paint it white & replace the hardware - woohoo for it only having two so I wont feel bad buying some $18 fancy shmancy knobs from anthropologie! :)  I plan to do a gallery wall above the table & put a fun tray of other necessities on top like the adorable set up below!

Nursery Planning

Today I decided that I should start collecting all of my random nursery thoughts & start putting together a plan for what I want to do with the big empty white room upstairs. I want to get some of the basic items picked out & in the room so that I can focus on accessorizing! We wont know the gender for sure until September 7th, our big 3D/4D ultrasound, so none of the accessories can be bought until then anyway.

Every single nursery picture that I love has something in common: a white Jenny Lind crib. This is the one must-have item for the nursery & I am so excited to get it in the room! The three other must have items that I love include:
Tissue Poms for the mobile
white changing table - hopefully something unique that we can repurpose
tallboy dresser - thinking an antique dark wood

This has always been my favorite nursery inspiration picture! Soooo loving the poms, will probably do blues & whites if it is a boy, but definitely these colors if it is a girl!

The other thing I really want is super colorful crib bedding!! I love how whimsical this nursery looks with the white vintage crib & the bunting banner. I love the mix of patterns, I have been scoping out some pretty amazing Amy Butler fabrics lately & hope to get some custom made bedding when we are ready!

I also LOVE the nursery below with the Jenny Lind crib & all of the fun, colorful artwork in the white frames! MUST paint something for the nursery. I'm sure I will go in with the intentions of creating something super elaborate & will end up with a silhouette of a giraffe on a canvas. I love the look of mixing modern prints & frames with vintage furniture. That is exactly the type of the nursery that I hope to create!

I will be spending the next few days eating bucketloads of poptarts & garlic bread scoping out craigslist in search of the perfect pieces for the room... so stay tuned!

Little Baby Garvin at our 12 Week Ultrasound

Baked Potato Soup & Confetti Cupcakes

11 pm on a Saturday night... bacon in the frying pan & cupcakes in the oven. Gotta replace my hundreds of cocktail calories with something! I'm already getting excited to fall off my bar stool when I have my first beergarita after the babe arrives.

This week we get another ultrasound, where the tech told us that if the baby is in the right position, we just might get to find out if little Marvin is a he or a she!! Holy shit I am so excited to find out the gender. There are so many reasons that I would be so happy to have each... I just can't wait to know which to look forward to! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Giraffe Love

I'm not really sure what the general rules are as to how long you are supposed to wait until you start buying baby stuff...But I can not stop buying Giraffe stuff!! I know that I don't want the nursery to be themey in any way, but all of the adorable Giraffe baby goodies out there just melt my heart!

My first ever baby purchase came from Von Maur. This is the BestEver Giraffe Play Mat. It is sooooo soft & snuggly, I wanted to put it in my own bed! I can just picture it in the middle of the floor in the nursery, perfect for decoration & tummy time!

Next purchase, the famous Sophie the Giraffe. This is the cutest, most adorable teether that I've ever seen!! I literally thought it was just for decoration when I first saw it, but turns out it is one of the best baby teethers in the world. Their website has all sorts of other Sophie products, there's a good chance I will have purchased all of them by February.

And my most recent purchase which I love SO MUCH, the Cloud B Gentle Giraffe.  It is a stuffed toy that plays peaceful sounds to help babies sleep. There are a bunch of different soothing sound options, along with a TIMER & a little velcro strap on the back so you can take it on the go, hooked on to the back of a stroller or carseat.

So turns out, the time I drunkenly fed & got my picture taken with a Giraffe at the zoo on an Iowa Hawkeye Gameday reall stuck with me! :)

Bump

I thought I would document the growing bump each week via my beloved chalkboard! The first pic we took at 8 weeks after my first ultrasound. I wanted one picture with the chalkboard the way it was when I announced the news! Also happy to get one picture in our old apartment before we moved to the townhouse :)

Now for the real deal. I wouldn't say it is necessarily a cute baby bump yet, it is merely a collection of the mass amounts of peaches, peanut butter & egg and cheese bagels that I have been eating. Luckily so far I have only been craving healthy foods, I could eat fruit for every meal! Peaches are my favorite (those Georgia Peaches sure came in handy) but I also love eating apple slices with peanut butter, pears, plums & watermelon. I have no interest in red meat, lots more chicken & pork chops (dipped in applesauce) these days. Coffee is the only thing that makes me not feel so great - although I did have a few puking episodes after eating steak & mashed potatoes, lasagna & enchiladas.

Alas, the 10 week BUMP.

PS.  I don't even know what a quail looks like. I don't even know how big a prune is.
